August 2022 Meeting

  • Date: August 20, 2022
  • Program: No Need to Re-Invent the Color Wheel
  • Speaker: Bethany Janssen; The Sewing Center

Our August speaker is Bethany Janssen, owner of The Sewing Center in Wichita, KS. She is a lifelong artist and former high school art teacher.

Bethany has developed arts programming for Wichita’s public school system, worked in costume design for theater, and also managed community art projects.

In her presentation, Bethany will teach quilters a better understanding of how to unify the three sets of color: primary, secondary and tertiary. Whether you are a self-proclaimed “power clasher” or more neutral in color taste, the color wheel will help better determine what is a complimentary choice.

There will be hands-on activities for those in attendance.

How may you, the customer, be an influence on what the shop owner purchases? Terri will share a few fabric cards used to represent fabric lines.

Terri is one of KLQ’s longarm quilters for hire. A complete list of those quilters can be featured on this page.

Hello fellow quilters,

Fall is upon us, mostly. . . . . (if the 90 degree weather will leave us)! Our October meeting will be at our regular meeting place, A-1 Singer at 1012 Oliver, Wichita, KS. A-1 opens at 9 AM for your perusing pleasures.

The program this month is Karlisa Brewer-Crombie from Derby, Kansas. She is a retired educator (USD 259) & a novice quilter. Karlisa shared that quilting is her therapy and something she has admired and desired to do for as long as she can remember, however, she did not begin her journey as a quilter until 2010.

This love for quilting comes from her deep appreciation of her family heritage of quilting. Karlisa’s paternal grandmother was a very accomplished and avid quilter.
