December 2025 Meeting

Program

There will be no program; instead, we’re making merry with a carry-in brunch, raffle, games, a gift exchange and show & share!! 

We will meet at our regular meeting place,  A-1 Singer at 1012 Oliver, Wichita, KS.  A-1 opens at 9 AM for your perusing pleasures with our gathering beginning around 10 AM.  Remember, members get a store discount on meeting days.

• Brunch:  This is a carry-in affair, so don’t forget to bring a dish. Some members signed up for specific items (i.e. paper goods, coffee, etc), but all other members are free to bring whatever food item they wish. This year we did not create a specific menu to sign up for ahead of time.

• Gift Exchange:  Members are encouraged to bring either a homemade or purchased (suggested $15-$20) gift for the exchange! Please bring your item wrapped.            

• Show and Share: Bring your finished quilts and/or works in progress.

• Raffle tickets:  Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for only $5. Bring a visitor and you both get one free ticket! 

October 2025 Meeting

  • Program: “Longarm Problem Solving – What You Should Know”
  • Speakers: Dawna O’Conner and Helen Watson of A-1 Sewing Center, Wichita, KS

In October, we’re welcoming Dawna O’Conner, owner, and Helen Watson, employee, of A-1 Sewing Center, Wichita, KS.

Their presentation will focus on some of the most common issues they see in longarm quilting along with the solutions to correct those issues, including deciding on when you really need a technician.  There will also be a question/answer time for guild member questions. 

Topics will include machine maintenance, troubleshooting table areas, along with cleaning longarm machines and table.

A-1 Singer Sewing Center is an authorized dealer and service repair center for Brother, Handi Quilter, Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking and Singer sewing machines.

August 2025 Meeting



In August, we’re excited to welcome Cheri’ Hanschu of Cheri’ Hanschu Quilting, as she shares her love for creating quilted jackets.

Cheri’ is an accomplished quilter and teacher and has taught several techniques of jacket making. Her presentation will include ideas about using longarm quilting as part of the creation process and stitching placement on jackets. 

She also has a passion for kantha quilt jackets which incorporate “kantha,” a type of stitching used in Indian embroidery. Cheri’ plans to bring lots of completed examples to demonstrate all the different processes.

Join us for an inspiring presentation by Trudy Cleveland, a professional quilter and photographer who has combined her love for quilting and photography to help others capture stunning images of their textile art—using nothing more than a smartphone.

Her lecture, “Shoot Your Quilt,” will cover the why, how, and when of photographing quilts, offering simple yet effective techniques to achieve professional-quality images. Whether you’re documenting your work, entering quilt shows, or sharing on social media, Trudy’s tips will take your quilt photography to the next level!

Trudy’s work has been featured in Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine and showcased in juried exhibitions such as Road to California and The Hoffman Challenge.

April 2025 Meeting

  • Program: “Tia’s Journey”
  • Speaker: Tia Curtis; TiaCurtisQuilts.com; Leavenworth, KS

Our April speaker is Tia Curtis, an internationally acclaimed quilter, teacher, and pattern designer. She has won multiple awards for her quilting and her quilt work and patterns have been featured in many publications. She has worked as a freelance quilt maker, quilter, and pattern designer for fabric manufacturers, fabric designers, books, and magazines.

Tia’s morning presentation showcases her quilting journey. Tia has lived all over the world and her view of quilting has been influenced by so many different cultures. Her love of Welsh-Style quilting and respect for quilt masters like Susan McCord and Gwen Marston is evident in her work.

Her presentation includes a trunk show of her custom quilts and she shares her process for creating one-of-a-kind quilts that range from traditional to whole-cloth to ultra modern pieces. All designs are Tia’s original work and are personally quilted in her home studio.

February 2025 Meeting

Our February meeting is time to renew your membership for 2025 – cost is $30.  Come at 9:30 for snacks, warm drinks and fellowship–it will also allow you to get your renewal completed before the rush.  Our meeting starts promptly at 10am; come early so we have time for our presentation and questions.

Our February speakers include KLQ President Robin Newton (above) and KLQ member Dea Corns, (left) who both have a passion for bag making and they’re going to “share the love” (Valentine’s!) at our February meeting.

“Bag It Up – TOTE-ally Fun Creations” by Robin Newton & Dea Corns

Dea and Robin have been making bags, totes and purses for several years.  They will be sharing some of the creations that they have made and tips and tricks learned from those projects. 

Topics will include the various pattern designers, zippers, purse hardware, lining those projects, handles, interfacing, stabilizers, and specialty fabrics – they go way beyond quilting cotton. Also, learn how to make a bag on your longarm.  A workshop to make the blue bag below is also going to be offered. Signup will be at the February meeting.
