Speaker: Dee Brouhard, Pixel Quilts, Tulsa, OK

Our October speaker is Dee Brouhard, the driving force behind Pixel Quilts, an idea and business she dreamed up after realizing how much she loved the process of creating this particular type of quilt.

A self taught quilter of 17 years with a background in Marketing and Design, Dee made her first pixel quilt in 2008, a Super Mario quilt for her nephew.

“There is something about the whole process of Pixel Quilts that I love,” says Dee. “From the dreaming up of the project and then the designing of the quilt and putting it together, it enables me to use my creativity to produce something striking, which is visually very different from the norm.”

PROGRAM

The morning presentation will explore many of the tips, tricks and techniques Dee has learned the hard way in pixel quilts and the design process.

She will also explain the pitfalls of pixel quilt design, particularly choosing the images that will get the best out of this unique quilting process. Dee will touch on her most popular pixel quilts, including the quilt requested by Queen Elizabeth, along with a trunk show of many other quilts.

• Destash Bash: destash: verb. To remove (thread, fabric, equipment, etc.) from one’s collection. Clean those sewing rooms, closets, boxes, totes, and anywhere else you stash your stuff (or stuff your stash). We’re setting up a trade/donate/sell table. Mark each item with your name and price, and have fun with your fellow guild members.

• Show and Share: Bring your finished quilts and/or works in progress.

• Raffle tickets: Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for only $5. Bring a visitor and you both get one free ticket!
