Our April speaker is Designer and Textile Artist Sara Kovacic of SaraKovacic.com, who is also the Operations Manager of The Sewing Center in Wichita, KS. In her morning presentation, she will show several of her hand-dyed pieces and discuss what worked, what didn’t, and what she learned along the way.
Sara is a screen-printer and hand-dyer living in her own world of shapes and colors. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Textiles with emphases in industrial design and art history from the University of Kansas.
Her corporate design career began in New York as a pattern designer for Martha Stewart followed by several years traveling and freelancing. She returned home to Wichita and began her position at The Sewing Center in June 2023.
Sara is partnering with YBG Studios and Ponder This for a fashion show at the Wichita Art Museum, June 21, 2024. Her custom-dyed fabric and prints will be used in the clothing line, as well as having some of her own finished work displayed in the Museum.
Her personal, freelance work is centered on pattern design, screen printing, and the chemistry and color theory of hand-dyed textiles.
